When kids are sick...

Two weeks ago Emily started daycare. 2 days a week for the first time ever, purely for social interaction. She came home at the end of that week with a runny nose. Now, two weeks later the Little Princesses and myself are sick.  Awful hacking cough with green snot/phlegm (Emily & I) and Jess has a very stuffed runny green snot nose (the bulb aspirator is not a hit!)

I was in two minds about sending Emily to daycare today, mainly because of her cough. I decided to keep her home. I'm a stay at home mum, so it was no drama for me too keep her home, but what if I was working, I wonder if I'd be in the same mind? Or would I be thinking differently about whether or not to send her?

I'm making sure Emily is drinking plenty of water, and that Jess is feeding ok. I've also been teaching Emily to cough into her sleeve, which I think is working pretty well. Not really much else I can do.  But I wasn't sure whether or not to drag them all the way to the doctors, only for him to tell me it's just a virus and there's nothing to do for it. I'm usually a rush-to-the-doctor-at-the-first-sign-of-sick kind of mum, but this time I'm not sure there's any point.

I did have a sore throat for a few days and sounded like Marge Simpson apparently (Hubby could not take me seriously when I roused at him) I feel heaps better today than I did for the last few days, so hopefully they'll be right soon.

So my reason for posting today is this - When is a sick child too sick to send to daycare/school? And what are your thoughts on giving children (not babies) cough medicine?

Righto, I'm off to Glen 20 everything!

WIN! My Memories Suite

I love digital scrapbooking! When I get time to play around with my current software, I get into a zone and end up working on my layouts for hours. So when I was given the opportunity to review My Memories Suite, I naturally jumped at the chance!

A great thing about this digital scrapbooking software is there is already a huge range of pre-installed templates, papers, embellishments, and more! If you're after a specific theme I'm sure you'd find something in the online store, there are so many wonderful kits to download for free, and equally wonderful kits for purchase! It was so hard to choose, I literally could spend hours trying to choose!

Some of my favourite products available from the My Memories store:
Sunshine on a Cloudy Day Template

Best Friends Pack

Easy Calendar 2011-12 (free)

Polka Dot Invitations

Christmas Gift Tags
I had a play around for a few days (and then some) and here are some of my creations. First up I used a Designer Template, there are so many options here! So I picked an album template, chose the photos I wanted and the program automatically created the album for me! Too easy. Of course, if you're not so lazy, you can choose and place your photos where you want them in the album template.

Here's a page from the pre installed Sweet Baby Girl Template.

For this one I just used a template for the photo placement and did the rest myself.
Calendar using free download template and pre installed papers.
I love how easy it is to navigate around the program, and there are so many functions and features to play with. Here is a screenshot of the work area.

You'll also see there that you can add music and video! How cool is that! The possibilities are only limited by your imagination! also has a forum and blog, so you'll never be stuck for help or inspiration!

If you want to get the software, I have a special code for my readers for $10 off regular price. Simply enter STMMMS35516 in the PROMO CODE box at checkout. You'll also receive a $10 coupon to spend in the store! Awesome!

WIN! Dora The Explorer: Dora’s Ballet Adventures

Dora the Explorer is back and heading on another adventure with her best friend, Boots, and her trusty map as she gets ready for her big dance show!

When the opportunity came up to review Dora's Ballet Adventures DVD, there was no question as to whether I'd do it. The boss Emily saw the email and said "we're going to get that, are we Mum!"

Released on September 1, the latest Dora DVD, Dora's Ballet Adventures is a compilation of four of Dora's dancing adventure episodes plus a bonus Go Diego Go sing-along episode.

Emily is Dora mad. Drink bottle, plates, backpacks, scooter, clothing, pencils. You name it, she probably has it! She also loves dancing. I often find her twirling around the lounge room. It makes me smile.

I love this action shot. Twirl, baby, twirl!

Episode 1 - Dora's Ballet Adventures - Dora can't wait to perform in her big dance show, but before it can start, she needs your help to move and groove back to her Dance School to find her ballet slippers!

Episode 2 - Dora, La Músico - The townspeople are having a musical parade, but when Señor Shush locks all of their instruments in a Music Box, Dora and Boots take their own parade to town!

Episode 3 - The Super Silly Fiesta - When Big Red Chicken loses his cake, Dora and Boots need your help on a giggle-filled adventure to save his Super Silly Fiesta!

Episode 4 - Surprise - ¡Feliz cumpleaños! Dora is throwing a surprise birthday party for Boots, but to get there, they'll need your help on a surprise-filled trip past a herd of chickens, Swiper and more!

Emily loved the first episode, as you can see from the photos above! Note to self, get the girl some ballet slippers! Although she did wander off a little throughout the last 3 episodes, she would come back to sing along to the songs, and 'help' with some of Dora's problems, especially the counting ones! A definite hit in our house, this DVD was watched about 4 times before Emily wanted something else!

Thanks to the lovely people at Paramount and Zing, I have a copy of Dora's Ballet Adventures to giveaway to one lucky reader!!

*Be a follower of my blog through Google Friend Connect, AND leave a comment below telling me what your best dance move is!

6 months!

Wow, how time flies! It seems like only yesterday that we brought Jessica home, a tiny little (contrary to doctors prediction) bundle of baby sweetness. My littlest princess. This post has been sitting in my drafts for a little while. Jessica is 7 months old today!

To celebrate Jessica's half year "birthday" I got baking and made some scrummy cupcakes. With  my little helper Emily at the ready, and some cupcake wrappers from Glenys at Cupcake City, my plain Betty Crocker vanilla cupcakes were transformed into something beautiful fit for a princess.

Our littlest princess, growing way to fast! She's almost crawling and has cut her first tooth!

I'd better start planning her first birthday!! Look out Glenys, here I come!!

At Cupcake City this week, all cupcake wrappers are 10% off! You can find the code on their facebook page here. Happy baking!
